Ask questions about a document

Attach the right source and use page or section references to check an answer.

Attach the source to your message

Upload a supported document in Documents, open it and choose Discuss. You can also attach documents from the conversation composer. A message can include up to three documents.

  1. Choose a PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown or CSV with readable text.
  2. Wait for the upload to finish and confirm the document is attached.
  3. Ask a focused question and request page or section references.
Open a source document, review its extracted text, then choose Discuss to use it in a conversation. · Illustrative content

Understand account storage limits

Your account can store up to 100 documents and 100 MB of document files in total, with a 25 MB limit per file. A message can include up to three documents. Download anything you need to keep before removing unused files.

Check the cited passage

Use page or section references to return to the source. Compare the answer with the original text, especially for names, dates and numbers.

A document saved in a project is not automatically attached to every message. Attach the specific sources the current answer should use.

If the file cannot be read

Upload an unencrypted file up to 25 MB; PDFs can contain up to 500 pages. For scanned pages, open the PDF in Documents and start text recognition (OCR). Review the recognized text before asking questions. If interrupted, resume recognition without repeating completed pages.
